This collaborative project between the National Museum and the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, explores the craft and cultural history of cast weights made by the Akan peoples of Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire for measuring gold dust.
Second-year students of Jewellery & Objects at NCAD made facsimile copies of selected weights from the Museum’s Ethnographic collection to develop their understanding of the lost-wax modelling techniques that were used by the Akan peoples.
Inspired by the Akan’s use of local proverbs in their figurative weights, the students selected proverbs from their own cultural context to inform their designs, which they cast in Sterling Silver. ​
The facsimile copies created by the students now form part of the Museum’s ‘handling collection’.

Discover an exciting new space – the Dead Zoo Lab – this summer at the National Museum of Ireland, Collins Barracks, Dublin 7.
The Dead Zoo Lab at Collins Barracks offers members of the public an opportunity to explore, engage with and enjoy some of the most popular specimens from the natural history collection, as well as some specimens that haven’t been on display for many years, while the Natural History Museum on Merrion Street is closed for much needed conservation and refurbishment works.

At any one time approximately 1,300 objects will be on public display spanning entomology, geology, mammals, birds, amphibians and reptiles, and a wide variety of marine life.
The National Museum of Ireland has the world’s largest collection of Blaschka glass models of marine life. These beautiful, delicate glass models were created in the 19th century by world renowned glass artisan father and son team Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka using intricate techniques.

A selection of these treasures, some of which have not been on display for generations, are also on display now at the Dead Zoo Lab at Collins Barracks.

Local residents are asked to print off the 1926 census for their house and put in their windows. People walking around the area can find out who lived in these houses.

For the third year in a row, Lollipop Apparel is delighted to bring our colourful Tie-Dye Workshop back to the vibrant Stoneybatter Festival celebration. Participants are encouraged to bring a pre-loved T-shirt, tote bag, or textile item to transform into a unique wearable artwork. Our workshop celebrates self-expression, conscious fashion, and community connection in a fun, inclusive, and eco-friendly environment. St. Brendan’s GAA runs a fun and welcoming nursery programme for young children in Dublin 7. Based at TU Dublin Grangegorman, it introduces boys and girls to Gaelic games through play, movement, and teamwork in a safe and inclusive environment. The nursery focuses on developing basic skills, confidence, and enjoyment of sport rather than competition. Sessions are led by volunteer coaches and encourage children to stay active, make friends, and become part of the local GAA community.

As part of the Stoneybatter festival, there will be two guided tours of the beautifully restored 18th century Magazine Fort in the Phoenix Park on Saturday, June 20th (11am & 12:15pm). 

The Fort has been subject to a phased restoration, the highlight of which was the rebuilding of the iconic ‘Duke of Dorset Gate’

Designed by Captain John Corneille and completed c. 1736, the Magazine Fort served as a continuous military installation for over 250 years. Managed by the British Army until 1922 and subsequently by Irish Military Authorities, the site was transferred to the Office of Public Works in 1988.

The fort holds immense historical, archaeological, and architectural significance. It famously served as the signal for the 1916 Easter Rising when it was raided on Easter Monday, 24 April. Decades later, on 23 December 1939, it was the site of the “Christmas Raid” by the IRA.

The Stoneybatter Cat Crawl aims to highlight the gorgeous cats that live around the area. These stunning cats have been instructed to lounge in the window to be admired during the event. Each window will display a photo of the resident cat as well as its likes/dislikes and unique quirks.
This event also aims to highlight the important work cat charities do around Dublin looking after feral and sick cats. There are lots of feral cats around Stoneybatter that are being fed and looked after by wonderful locals. We are asking for a donation of €3 for the map, donation will go to CDPA.

On Sunday 8th February 2026, Holy Family Church, Aughrim Street, opened its 150th Jubilee Year. Over the last 150 years, our church has been a place of prayer, comfort, and growth. In this Jubilee year we remember the past generations who built this church and forged this community and we look forward with hope to the future. Our Jubilee Committee has organised a number of special events to mark this significant milestone.
The church is of artistic interest, with Victorian tiling to the chancel, and windows by Myers of Munich, Harry Clarke Studios, and Hubert McGoldrick.

Four well known historians Dr Mary McAuliffe, Liz Gillis, Greg Walls & Dr Caitlin White, will guide you through using the 1926 census and what we can discover about the Stoneybatter and wider Dublin 7 area in the post revolutionary years / early years of the Irish Free State.  

Local musicians Stephen Brennan, Rue McLoughlin and Kirsty Monaghan host an early music session in Project 29. Running from 11-2 on Saturday. Grab a coffee and get into the festival spirit while listening to some blues, soul and R&B.

Step into a space of stillness, reflection, and connection at The Sanctuary Open Day in the heart of Stoneybatter. Guided by mindfulness, compassion, and community, visitors are invited to experience a range of nourishing taster sessions throughout the day. Events include Guided Breathwork Sessions, Qigong, Community Meditation, Soundbaths, and Guided Labyrinth Tours. Whether you are curious about mindfulness practices or simply seeking a moment of calm, this open day offers a welcoming opportunity to explore what The Sanctuary has to offer in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Bringing the bold flavours of Mexican street food to Penders Market, our Fast Bites concept combines vibrant snacks, refreshing drinks, and interactive fun. We’ll serve loaded Dorilocos and chilli-packed crisps layered with bold toppings, perfect for quick festival eating. Alongside the food, guests can enjoy colourful “Aguitas Curativas,” inspired by traditional aguas frescas and ideal for summer crowds. Visitors can also join our daily 4pm Mexican “Lotería” game, bringing energy, culture, and community to the stall. To build excitement, our “First 30” giveaway rewards early customers with prizes, while Lotería winners enter for a chance to win 50% off one meal weekly for a year.

Curious about Collins Barracks? This Stoneybatter Festival, join us for a special tour exploring the history and architecture of this remarkable building. Once the largest purpose-built army barracks in Ireland and Britain, this imposing structure has a 300-year history! Discover the secrets hidden in its rock walls and spacious squares, the architectural quirks that colour the historic site on the banks of the Liffey. This tour will be taking place outdoors so dress appropriately for the weather!

There will be two tours, one starting at 1pm and the other at 2pm. Each tour should take around 45 minutes.

Eat your way around Stoneybatter during this 3-hour walking food tour with local resident Ketty Quigley from Delicious Dublin Tours. Visit a range of local food spots to sample delicious food, hear the stories behind them and learn about the local food history that has shaped the neighbourhood.

What’s included: food tastings at five local businesses and a guided walking tour led by a local resident.

Participants must be 18+. The tour operates rain or shine and most tastings will take place outdoors. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate allergies or dietary requirements. Tickets are non-refundable.

Back for its third year, the Eco Hub is a welcoming afternoon of eco-friendly activities & info, including a huge repair café with Tog Hackerspace. Got clothes, small appliances, toys, or electronics that need a little TLC? Bring them along to get them fixed, and learn some repair tips yourself. You can register a slot at the repair café, via Eventbrite. There’ll also be a big book swap where you can browse and pick up a new-to-you read, a kids’ art table, and from 2pm-5pm, we’ll have a home energy expert to answer your questions.

The Stoneybatter Film Showcase is a locally driven film event celebrating the creativity and talent of filmmakers from the Stoneybatter community and surrounding areas. Featuring short films, documentaries, and independent productions made by local creators, the showcase provides a platform for emerging voices to share stories rooted in local culture, experiences, and perspectives. Held within the community, it brings audiences and filmmakers together to support grassroots cinema and foster creative connections.

Lilliput Stores will be holding a relaxed evening of poetry readings and short performances. Everyone is welcome to bring some of their own writing and can sign up to read in the shop or on the day. We want to celebrate small voices, their rustlings and murmurations. There will also be wine, Lilliput nibbles and much chatter.

Poetry is meant to be heard. This event is an honouring of the spoken nature of poetry that is often forgotten. Speaking words aloud can change the poem, the poet and the audience. Come along to listen or read some poems you love, or ones you’ve written yourself. The event will last two hours, starting at 7.30pm. Drinks such as coffee and wine will be available at the venue. Book launch of Song Of The Fallen, by Karl Parkinson. A local author’s fourth collection of poetry will be launched in the Cobblestone Pub, on June 20th. Featuring live readings of his poetry by Karl, and a host of other poets will read on the night also. The book is published by Blue Lotus Books. Karl Parkinson is an acclaimed author of 7 books, and his work has been published widely in Ireland and internationally. A fun, engaging night of poetry and song for all.
